Mel Pellerito started her journey with dog training in 2006 when she brought home her first Border Collie, Shadow. It began with a basic puppy kindergarten class then, when Shadow was just of 4 months old, they began competition level obedience class. Since that time, they have also trained extensively in sheep herding, tracking, rally obedience and agility. Mel and her Border Collies compete regularly in AKC and CPE agility venues, recently earning a CPE championship with Skye.
Mel says she didn’t get her first Border Collie in order to do competitive dog sports, but rather she began training in competitive dog sports because her Border Collie needed a job! Training her dogs has become a passion that she now shares with others through teaching the fun game of agility since 2011.
Mel’s philosophy in agility training is to establish a solid foundation and build good relationships between dogs and their handlers. She enjoys helping handlers and their dogs achieve whatever level they choose, for fun in the back yard or going on to compete in agility trials. Agility should be all about having fun with your dogs and Mel brings this philosophy to every class she teaches.
